Medical Device Design at ITL
At this stage of your medical device design project our multi-disciplinary teams will advance your product concept through detailed design, further development, prototyping and testing.
The product design phase is where your medical device first comes to life and can be used in trials, further testing (including EMC and safety testing) and often regulatory submission - all of which ITL can support you through.
We can support you at any stage of your product design project; whether you need a full-system design, re-design of all or part of a current device or assistance with the transfer into manufacturing.
Many years of experience have given us a thorough understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechatronics, precision placing, dispensing control, user interfaces, thermal control and much more.
A medical device product design project at ITL usually involves:
Design of all aspects of the device
We can design the entire system for you or work with your team on specific aspects of the product design.
Our engineers have expertise in:
- Software and Firmware Design
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Design
- Systems Engineering
Development of the cost model
At the product design phase we are able to add detail to the cost model to give you a better indication of what it will cost to manufacture your medical device.
Prototyping
We are able to produce anything from 1-offs to high volumes of prototype devices.
Testing
ITL’s engineers can manage all aspects of regulatory testing e.g. safety and EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), performance testing and type testing e.g. thermal tests, packaging tests etc.
Design for manufacture
Our expertise in both product design and manufacturing means that we always design for manufacture- this isn’t another phase of the process, it’s an integral part of what we do.
We also generate technical files for regulatory submission
We have worked on product development projects for a range of medical and non-medical devices including:
- In-vitro diagnostic devices (IVDs)
- Patient connected medical devices
- Point-of-care diagnostic devices
- Micro camera technology
- Next generation DNA sequencing
- Spectrometer based food safety testers
- Laboratory instrumentation
