Highlights from MEDICA 2017

ITL Group returned to the MEDICA tradeshow in Düsseldorf, Germany this year with a mission to showcase and discuss how our engineers are adapting existing and new technologies to develop life-changing diagnostic devices that are transforming the 21st Century health-scape.

Since the close of the show MEDICA has reported that 123,500 professional visitors attended, from over 130 countries. Around 60 percent were international visitors, which presented valuable opportunities from manufacturing to distribution.

The ITL team were among the 5,100 exhibitors this year - the largest number to date. In an exciting demonstration of future medical innovation, ITL showcased their technology demonstrator – the LumiPod. It employs the latest technologies entering the medical device field – from near-field communication (NFC) and wireless charging to an associated tablet app and Bluetooth data transmission. Captivating attendees with its unique, ergonomic design, the LumiPod sparked interesting ideas and conversations about what the future holds for the diagnostics industry.

Organisers of the exhibition recognised that there was an increased demand for Point-of-Care (POC) devices that are able to provide real-time, relevant information at the POC as quickly and easily as possible. Mobile computing programs on tablets and smartphones are prime examples of this, along with their apps. Another prominent trend at this year’s show was dematerialization, as there is a greater push for equipment to become more compact and lighter, without any reduction in performance.

Throughout the week Vitl Life Science Solutions exceptional laboratory instruments were catching the eye of many distributors and end-users. The unveiling of the Lu-mini – Vitl’s newest addition to the range which is due for release in the new year attracted significant interest in addition to the phenomenal feedback about the quality, design and accuracy of the product.
