Production engineering support for pre-production units of the Bedfont Scientific NOxBOXi

“In a rapidly changing medical industry a company’s reputation is crucial and for this reason we need the very best manufacturing partner in the market to help us maintain that reputation. We chose ITL as our full manufacturing partner for their ability to support us with their cost effective, high quality manufacturing process and delivery capacity. “They are always on hand to help with troubleshooting and fulfill our need to work with smart, creative problem solvers who will help us achieve the most professional and time efficient turnaround for our projects”

Jason Smith, General Manager at Bedfont Scientific

Requirements

ITL’s relationship with Bedfont Scientific began when Bedfont needed a partner to manufacture several pre-production units of their NOxBOXi. The NOxBOXi monitors and regulates the delivery of Nitric Oxide during Inhaled Nitric Oxide Therapy. One of the key uses for Nitric Oxide therapy is in the treatment of premature babies with breathing problems.

Our Approach

ITL’s production engineers worked closely with Bedfont to offer initial design improvements to allow the NOxBOXi to be more easily manufactured.

This included re-laying and re-routing of cabling, advising on a solution to mitigate electromagnetic discharge and supporting the implementation of a number of design updates prior to the manufacturing of the units.

Results

A dedicated ITL manufacturing and production engineering team then manufactured the units alongside engineers from Bedfont. This gave Bedfont’s engineers a full understanding of the manufacturing process to enable their engineers to fully appreciate the impact on manufacturing of any further design changes.

The pre-production units were used for validation, testing and product demonstrations.

The positive market reaction to the NOxBOXi meant that orders were soon placed and Bedfont now needed to scale up to full manufacturing. Read our case study on full scale manufacturing for Bedfont Scientific
