ITL responds to the UK Government’s call for volume ventilator manufacture

The UK Government has issued a countrywide call to industry for businesses to pull together to rapidly provide ventilators to meet the inevitable increase in demand that will be caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ITL Group (a G&H company) is an industry-recognised contract manufacturer of medical devices with over 40 years’ sector experience. We have the capability, capacity and most importantly the regulatory standards in place to manufacture ventilators on a global scale.

ITL has full design capabilities and capacity, but the timelines outlined by the government preclude following the normal product development process for medical devices. The best route would be to take an existing design which already meets stringent regulatory criteria into manufacture. Currently, we do not have such a design available but are willing to partner with any company that has and is willing to co-operate.

The government has challenged UK-based companies to fast-track design and manufacturing of a new ventilator, but there are currently several hurdles for any company to overcome to achieve this, the main ones are;

  • Fast-track the design process in order to safely design, verify and validate a new ventilator
  • Reduce the regulatory approval process time whilst ensuring patient safety
  • Establish a supply chain with ongoing capacity and relevant regulatory standards in place
  • Maintain a healthy workforce to build the new devices

ITL currently manufactures devices for third-parties, some of which may help during this crisis, and is planning how to increase production capacity to meet demand if requested.

We’re ready to help in any way that we can, so why not do what we do best.
