ITL Group host first Solid Solutions Knowledge Transfer session

Innovative medical device design, development, and manufacturing partner ITL Group recently hosted the first Solid Solutions Knowledge Transfer session at their facility in Ashford.

“The idea of a knowledge transfer is for users of SolidWorks to open up and share their experiences with others.”

ITL Group Mechanical Engineer, Dan Hollands led the transfer session, giving a well-received presentation to demonstrate his innovative use of Composer.

Dan impressed representatives from Solid Solutions, Fosters Refrigeration and Judges Group with his extensive knowledge of the software and his undeniable passion for what can be achieved through its use.

Since implementing SolidWorks Premium, ITL has not only used Composer to design detailed manufacturing instructions, service instructions, user manuals, and marketing materials, but also made significant headway by discovering new software capabilities.

Barry Chatham, Key Account Manager at Solid Solutions commented,

“Having seen what you’ve been able to achieve is astounding. There are companies who may have produced a simple manual and that is all they do, whereas you have taken it so much further than ‘just another manual’.”

Previous design processes were highly time-consuming but Composer has enabled ITL to increase capacity, helping to accelerate the release of new products into manufacturing with fewer quality issues and errors leading to a reduction in rejects with much better control.

Barry Chatham added,

“Initially I was a little sceptical about the figures but seeing how ITL have transformed their processes and are managing to persuade the conservative naysayers into converts is amazing!”

Composer provides an easy solution for the generation and maintenance of all works instructions from accurate CAD data, so with three manufacturing facilities worldwide, being able to host instructions online or via a secure web server is a fast and efficient way to get the most recent servicing instructions in front of the employees that need it.

ITL have witnessed greater collaboration between Research and Development and Production Engineering (PE) since implementing Composer. By improving the quality of instructions employee understanding improves; therefore, the better the understanding, the better the products, which in itself generates a time and cost saving.

Dan commented,

“One of the biggest advantages for us is the significant time reduction when generating instructions. For us, we’ve witnessed a time-saving of 60% when using Composer compared to our previous Corel Draw software.”

Dan spoke of some extraordinary results,

“We’re currently working on a project involving pneumatic tubing. The engineer stated that to generate works instructions would take approximately six months, but with our assistance, he’s managed to do it in just five weeks!”

Reflecting on the meeting, Dan Hollands said,

“It was a pleasure to have the Solid Solutions team down at ITL. The knowledge transfer allowed us to pass on our knowledge of SolidWorks Composer to the team and voice our opinions, ideas, and concerns. I owe a huge thank you to Barry Chatham for organizing the event.”

Barry Chatham from Solid Solutions commented:

“I would like to thank ITL for hosting the first of our Knowledge Transfer Sessions at their premises, which in my opinion was an amazing success; Dan delivered one of the best customer presentations I have ever seen. I knew this, based on his passion and skill and knowing what he has achieved with Composer, was something that other people in the manufacturing arena needed to see.”

Solid Solutions will be hosting further Knowledge Transfer sessions in the future. If you are interested in attending or equally would like to share your SOLIDWORKS successes with other professionals, please get in touch with Barry –
