Managing Electronic Component and Parts Shortages in 2021

26 July 2021 News

As a global supplier of medical, diagnostic, and analytical systems, we are aware of the critical role our supply chain plays in serving our customers. Recent market challenges, including an industry-wide shortage of raw materials and unprecedented demand for electronic components, continue to cause uncertainty for many manufacturers. While many struggles to deliver due to the electronic component shortage, we remain committed to doing everything we can to support our customers.

The ongoing supply constraints continue to impact our business as lead times for electronic components increase due to low availability. At present, lead times for semiconductors, also known as ‘chips,’ are approximately a year behind schedule, with lead times ranging from 16 to 50 weeks. We are acutely aware of the impact these shortages might have on day-to-day operations. Still, we want to reassure our customers that we are doing our utmost to provide lead time updates quickly and accurately.

Our team is working tirelessly with our global network of suppliers to ensure continuity of supply and to drive down lead times where possible . However, to avoid delays, we encourage our customers to consider long-term demand planning to help us secure critical components ahead of time and minimize potential disruption.

How ITL is managing the electronic component shortage in 2021
  • Adjust lead times to reflect fulfillment time from order placement to delivery.
  • Outline lead times to reflect the current backlog of parts and incoming supply.
  • Continue to analyze the market and adjust our lead times to ensure that we appropriately reflect the reality of our supply chain.
  • Increase global capacity to build additional inventory where appropriate and where agreed by the customer.
  • Find agility in our supply base wherever possible, particularly with our larger suppliers, to support the most critical areas of operations.
  • Increase customer support resources, including a global cross-functional team for large order requirements and essential needs.
Thank you

Despite the adversity we all face, we remain committed to investing in a resilient supply chain and continuing to deliver operational excellence. We strive to return to our typical lead times and delivery as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
